This was one of my favorite days so far just for the wander factor. I Googled things to do in Split the night before, so was able to gather a general area to head towards, but otherwise just walked. The weather every day so far has been perfect … and when checking the forecast prior to arrival I was expecting rain almost daily, so every day that it hasn’t rained has been a bonus.
I headed towards the beach vs. a direct route to the old town area. Many tan Europeans were taking advantage of the late season weather … I wished I had been dressed to join them in the splashy Adriatic, but it was still nice to witness. From the beach I headed back inland a few blocks to the Old town area. Yet another area of tightly situated buildings and pathways of restaurants … and cats.
Froggyland was one of the Trip Advisor destinations. It was so ridiculous and wonderful that I had to pay the 13 Euros to go inside. It was about 30 cases of over 500 taxidermied FROGS. Stuffed lovingly and carefully in the early 1900s. They made almost every scene you could think of … classroom, courtroom, gymnasium … with the most hilarious captions in broken English … I SO wish I could have taken pics of every caption. They were well worth the price of admission.
After Froggyland I headed towards the Marjan Forest park. Right at the beginning I encountered an overbearing and grope-y ship captain who lives in Croatia. He was nice to talk to as we discovered the park, but he teetered on the border of throat punch territory and I had to constantly assert my boundaries ;).
After sunset I made my way back to the hotel. I loved navigating the narrow streets and observing daily life.
