Day 3: Perast & Kotor, Montenegro

We drove south to Montenegro yesterday. After crossing the Croatia/Serbia border, our first stop was at Our Lady of the Rocks church & museum in Perast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_the_Rocks. It POURED down rain for must of the bus trip, but then almost as soon as we got off the bus the rain stopped. A boat shuttle took us to the church.

Then we went to Kotor, which is a “fortified town on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, in a bay near the limestone cliffs of Mt. Lovćen. Characterized by winding streets and squares, its medieval old town has several Romanesque churches, including Kotor Cathedral. It’s also home to the Maritime Museum, which explores local seafaring history.”

There is a church there that was built in 1166! Over 850 years old! The Clock Tower is one of the symbols of Kotor. It occupies the central place in the square opposite the main gate. It was built in 1602. It is wound daily by a family of watchmakers who live below.
